Bennett was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2016. Despite this, he continued to record and perform until 2021.

The legendary singer’s career spanned across eight decades. He was known for classic songs such as “Beacause of You,” “Stranger in Paradise,” “Just in Time,” “Rags to Riches,” and most notably, “I Left My Heart in San Francisco.”

Bennett famously covered Hank Williams‘ “Cold, Cold Heart” in 1951. His version reached the #1 spot on the chart and remained on the chart for a total of 27 weeks.

Because of his cover’s success, Bennett helped introduce Williams’ music to a whole new audience.

Bennett’s popularity held firm in the later years of his life. During these years, he sang “Body and Soul” with Amy Winehouse and recorded songs with Lady Gaga.

Gaga was with Bennett when he made his final public appearance. They performed together at Radio City Music Hall in August 2021.

Tony Was A One-In-A-Million Artist Who Will Be So Dearly Missed

Throughout his career, Bennett won 18 Grammy Awards out of a total of 36 nominations. He also received the Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021.

In addition, Bennett received two Emmy Awards and was named a Kennedy Center Honoree in 2005.

Bennett is survived by his wife, Susan Benedetto, his sons (Danny and Dae Bennett), his daughters (Johanna Bennett and Antonia Bennett), and his nine grandkids. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of them during this difficult time.

May Bennett rest in peace. He was a one-in-a-million type of artist. Although he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on through the songs he left behind.
