Blake Lands A Pure Country Singer For His Last Voice Team

As soon as she opened her mouth to sing during the Voice blind auditions, Grace West made it clear she is country as can be. She performed Pam Tillis‘ “Maybe It Was Memphis,” and caught the attention of Blake Shelton and Niall Horan.

She ended up choosing Shelton as her coach. He only had one spot left on his team, so she completed it. In doing so, she became the last artist to ever join Team Blake, since he’s leaving the show after Season 23 ends.

West continued to advance through the competition. She won her battle after singing Randy Travis‘ “I Told You So” with Carlos Rising. Shelton said, “You’re doing what you were born to do, and it’s country, whether you like it or not when it comes out of your mouth.”

She then delivered an outstanding cover of Dolly Parton‘s “Here You Come Again” during the knockouts. That performance prompted Shelton to say she’s “the real deal.”

Grace West Keeps Things Country With Another Performance

West won her knockout and advanced to the playoffs. She kept things country by covering The Judds’ “Love Is Alive.”

The Judds released “Love Is Alive” in 1984. The song reached the #1 spot on the Hot Country Songs chart and was also a #1 country hit in Canada. By the end of 1985, “Love Is Alive” ranked at the 15th spot on the year-end Hot Country Songs chart.

At age 19, West was born years after “Love Is Alive” was released. She had never even performed the song before the Voice playoffs!

How Grace West’s Playoff Performance Was Received

But if you didn’t know that fact, you’d assume West has been singing the tune for years. She flowed through the lyrics with a beautiful ease, pleasing her coach and the Voice viewers.

Some of the comments on the official YouTube video of West’s performance were:

“She could make a country record tomorrow and I would listen to the whole thing. So authentic.”

“Beautiful performance ! She was to perfection !”

“HUGE Judds fan here. I wouldn’t have a problem saying this was terrible if it were terrible, I promise. This was a GREAT performance! Congrats to Grace for an awesome tribute to the Judds. Awesome!”

“She’s amazing. Her tone is so beautiful, and she sings every song like it’s hers. This is the future of Country…”

West also received a compliment from fellow Team Blake member NOIVAS, who commented:

“My little sis, Grace! Your tone is absolutely unique and pro. Like I’ve said before, I am so ready for that record now cause you’re ready sis. So glad that we’re both moving on this journey together and I’m so glad it brought us together.”

As anticipated, West ended up advancing to the next stage of the competition. Head below to watch her “Love Is Alive” cover that helped her get there!
