For the majority of her albums, Twain was a co-writer for just about every single song. A lot of the songs she co-wrote with her then-husband Robert “Mutt” Lange.

Twain and Lange were married in 1993, had a son named Eja in 2001, and separated in 2008 after Lange had an affair with Twain’s close friend Marie-Anne Thiébaud. Not only did her romantic relationship with Lange end, so did their professional relationship.

Now married to Frédéric Thiébaud, yes – Marie-Anne’s former husband, Twain is happier than she’s ever been and wants her music to reflect that.

During an appearance on Tim’s Twitter Listening Party for Queen of Me, Twain tweeted some fun facts about each track. When it got to the tenth track on the album, “Number One,” she revealed some big news.

“Number One took me way outside my normal sonic writing direction. It’s very intimate lyrically, but it’s very dancey sonically. It makes me wanna get up and jump around the room,” she tweeted about it.

The big news came in the very next tweet. She revealed that “Number One” was the “first Twain / Lange co-write in over 20 years.”

While it wasn’t a co-write with her ex-husband, it is a co-write with her son, Eja Lange.

The liner notes on her album confirms that Eja is a co-writer on this track.

In 2020, Twain opened up about her son’s decision to forge ahead in the music industry.

“He’s very passionate about making music, creating music, composing music,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “He doesn’t have this desire to be on stage. I’m not sure if he would ever go in that direction. He’s following more in the footsteps of creating the music. He loves to orchestrate music. I’m very happy for him.”
