For years now, a new series about Elvis Presley has been in the works on Netflix. Priscilla Presley, who helped create the show, first spoke about it in August 2019. The show was called Agent King at the time.

The premise of the show was described as…

“…[an] adult animated action/comedy series…In the series, Elvis Presley is covertly inducted into a secret government spy program to battle the dark forces that threaten the country he loves – all while holding down his day job as the King of Rock and Roll!”

We didn’t hear anything about the show for awhile. In October 2021, Priscilla promised the show was still on the way, and told fans to look out for it in 2022.

We are still working on Agent King diligently. It should be released in 2022!” she said.

Priscilla explained the premise of the show in a followup tweet. She said, “For those asking about Agent King, it’s an adult animated alternate reality action comedy series coming to Netflix in 2022!

2022 came and went, and Agent King was never released. Finally, we just got a huge update about the new series a few days ago.

For starters, the title of the show has changed. It is no longer Agent King, but rather, Agent Elvis. Additionally, Matthew McConaughey was named as the star of the series. He’ll be voicing Elvis in the show.

Fans got the first chance to hear Matthew voice Elvis in a new teaser trailer for Agent Elvis. Some were concerned about the casting, since Matthew doesn’t sound like Elvis and isn’t attempting to mimic his voice.

Elvis fans are also still riding the wave of the 2022 Elvis biopic, which starred Austin Butler. He earned immense praise for his spot-on portrayal of Elvis, won a Golden Globe, and has been nominated for an Oscar.

But since Agent Elvis is supposed to take place in an alternate reality, it makes sense why Matthew isn’t trying to imitate Elvis. After all, Elvis wasn’t a secret agent in real life either, just like he wasn’t born in Texas like Matthew.

So what does Priscilla think about Matthew starring in Agent Elvis? She’s all for it!

So excited to have Matthew McConaughey bringing his cool swagger to the role of Agent Elvis in our upcoming Netflix animated series!” she wrote on Twitter. “Elvis would’ve loved this! Alright Alright Alright!”

You can watch the teaser trailer for Agent Elvis below. The show is set to premiere in March, and we can’t wait!
