Reba McEntire & Kelly Clarkson Go Way Back

Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson go way back. They’ve been friends for ages, and have performed together numerous times.

In 2007, Reba and Kelly released a duet version of Kelly’s hit song, “Because of You.” That reached the second spot on the Hot Country Songs chart and has been certified Platinum by the RIAA.

Reba and Kelly eventually became family…literally. Narvel Blackstock, Reba’s former husband, is the father of Brandon Blackstock, Kelly’s former husband.

So for a few years, Reba was Kelly’s mother-in-law!

I know we’re friends and we’re family, but you’re always like that hero to me,” Kelly once told Reba on her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Reba & Kelly Reunite On The Voice

Fans rejoice whenever Reba and Kelly reunite. Most recently, they worked together on Season 23 of The Voice.

Kelly is serving as a coach on the popular competition series. Reba stepped up to serve as the season’s Mega Mentor.

As the Mega Mentor, Reba offers guidance to all four coaches’ teams as they rehearse for the knockouts.

Emotions Run High During Voice Rehearsals

Things got pretty emotional during the Voice rehearsals that aired on Monday night (April 17). Reba cried when she heard 19-year-old Team Blake artist Kylee Dayne cover Celine Dion’s version of “All by Myself.”

You really touched my heart,” Reba said after hearing Kylee sing. “That’s the biggest thing, is to capture somebody in the audience, to where they’re sobbing, or laughing. Get some emotion out of them, and you did it for me.

Kylee later won her knockout after delivering a stunning performance.

Another rehearsal performance got Kelly to shed some tears. That performance came from Kala Banham, who sang the Goo Goo Dolls’ song “Iris.”

Reba picked up on Kelly’s emotions in the rehearsal. Speaking about Kala’s performance, she said, “The emotions that [Kala] showed, I got chills, Kelly cried. That’s what you want from a performer.”

Kelly explained why she got so emotional. “She can make you cry after the first three notes…that’s rare!” she said about Kala.

However, Kala did not win her knockout performance. Luckily, Chance the Rapper used his “steal” on her, so she gets to stay on the show!
