“Life Is a Highway” Receives 7x Platinum Certification
Rascal Flatts’ “Life is a Highway” is still hitting big numbers nearly 20 years after their version came out.
When you think of Rascal Flatts’ long list of iconic songs, “Life is a Highway” probably comes to mind. Over the years, it has become a staple for the band, but did you know that their version is actually a cover?
The song was originally recorded by Canadian singer Tom Cochrane and released in 1991. Fifteen years later, Rascal Flatts remade it for the soundtrack of the 2006 Disney film Cars. Their cover became a huge hit, reaching the seventh spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
To this day, it remains one of the most popular songs recorded for a Disney movie. That was proven even further on December 23, when “Life is a Highway” officially reached 7x Platinum status from the RIAA.Â
A song earns Platinum status when it sells 1 million copies, meaning Rascal Flatts has now sold over 7 million copies of the track.

Earlier this year, Rascal Flatts members Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus, and Jon Don Rooney announced they will hit the road again after a five-year hiatus.

Originally, the Grammy-nominated band announced a farewell tour set for 2020. After two decades in the industry, Rascal Flatts explained they needed a break and decided on a farewell tour at that point in their career.
However, those plans were put on hold when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down nearly all live events. The band later decided to cancel all shows, but now, they are officially taking the stage again.
During the Life is a Highway Tour, the band will kick off a series of shows in February 2025. Lauren Alaina and Chris Lane will serve as supporting acts.
We can’t wait to see Rascal Flatts perform together again!
