Peyton Manning Gives a Performance of “You Never Even Called Me by My Name” at a Nashville bar
If you’ve ever been to downtown Nashville, it’s pretty common to see people doing karaoke in local bars. However, it’s not every day you catch football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning showing off his singing skills.
Manning was in Nashville to host the 58th annual CMA Awards, which aired on Wednesday, November 20. This marked his third time hosting the event, and he was joined by returning co-host Luke Bryan along with Lainey Wilson, who teamed up with the pair for the first time.

But even after the awards show, it seems Manning wasn’t done celebrating the night. After finishing his hosting duties, he headed to the popular Nashville bar Losers, where he gave the crowd an unforgettable and hilarious concert by getting up on stage and singing David Allan Coe’s country hit “You Never Even Called Me by My Name.”
About the Song “You Never Even Called Me by My Name”
“You Never Even Called Me by My Name” was released in 1975 by David Allen Coe on his album Once Upon a Rhyme.
Written by Steve Goodman and John Prine, the original version of the song first appeared on Goodman’s 1971 debut album, but it became widely famous when Coe’s rendition took off.
The song was originally intended as a parody, poking fun at the “typical” country song. It even includes a playful nod to some of country music’s biggest stars, referencing legends like Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings.

When Peyton Manning decided to take a crack at performing the country classic, he did so with a mic in hand and a full band backing him up. While football may be his main talent, Manning proved that country music is also close to his heart as he confidently belted out all the lyrics to the song.
We aren’t so sure that he has a bright future as a country music superstar though!
