Mark Chesnutt Underwent Emergency Heart Surgery In June

Country music singer Mark Chesnutt is ready to return to performing after his recent heart surgery.

The “Bubba Shot the Jukebox” singer has struggled with various health issues during the last few years. In 2021, he underwent “urgent” back surgery and tested positive for COVID-19 soon after.

Chesnutt’s recovery took longer than expected, and he was forced to cancel the rest of his 2021 shows. In early 2022, Chesnutt shared that his doctor discovered some underlying medical issues that made his case “a little more serious” than they initially thought.

The singer later shared the reason for his ongoing health troubles, saying, “I have had some issues with neuropathy that was concerning, but that has started to subside.

Chesnutt eventually returned to performing in the summer of 2022. But in November 2023, he announced the need to take more time off due to unspecified “extreme health issues.”

Then, Chesnutt underwent emergency quadruple bypass surgery in mid-June of this year. He canceled some of his upcoming concerts so he could focus on his recovery.

How Is Chesnutt Doing Now?

Thankfully, Chesnutt seems to be doing well since his surgery. He shared an encouraging update at the end of June:

“Well folks, doc says I got a new heart,” he wrote. “I’m recovering comfortably at home with my family. Today we sat on the porch just soaking in the sun and that beautiful Texas weather. But I can’t wait to get back to pickin’ and singin’ with all my favorite fans! Thank you for all the well wishes and prayers. They have helped and meant the world to me in my time of need. I appreciate you all so very much. See yuh soon!”

Now, it seems Chesnutt is feeling even better, as he just confirmed his upcoming return to the stage.

Chesnutt shared a post on Tuesday (July 16) announcing his involvement as one of the performers at a show honoring Country Music Hall of Fame songwriter Dean Dillon. The concert is scheduled for October 9 at the Propst Arena at VBC in Huntsville, Alabama.
