’90s country music star Mark Chesnutt was hospitalized over the weekend due to a “heart health issue.”
The issue required him to undergo emergency surgery, forcing him to cancel his upcoming shows.
A statement was issued on Tuesday, June 18, and shared on Chesnutt’s official social media pages, revealing he went through emergency quadruple bypass surgery.
The technical term for heart bypass surgery is coronary artery bypass graft (CABG). According to Mayo Clinic, the surgery âcreates a new path for blood to flow around a blocked or partially blocked artery in the heart.â
The post read:
“Mark Chesnutt, one of the most signatured country music voices of the 90s and a honky tonk mainstay for more than three decades, experienced a heart health issue over the weekend that hospitalized him Sunday evening, June 16; Mark underwent emergency quadruple bypass surgery. The recuperation time will make it necessary to cancel show dates.”
Fans have been asked to respect the family’s privacy during this time while Chesnutt recovers.
The post also included a personal message from Chesnutt himself, saying he was expecting to see fans again soon.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the cancellation of my upcoming shows. I send my love and gratitude to my family and friends, the band and fans for your understanding, prayers and support, and look forward to seeing you all again soon at a honky tonk near you.”

This isn’t the first time Mark Chesnutt has had to cancel shows due to his health.
Mark Chesnutt has faced multiple undisclosed health challenges in recent years.
The last time he had to cancel shows was in November 2023 when he was hospitalized and placed in critical care due to “extreme health issues.”
Chesnutt had revealed that he had been âstruggling with a battleâ he had tried to fight by himself over the past few years, but since the issues became more âextreme,â he decided to take the time to get healthy. He said that âthe fight is over.â
And back in 2021, Chesnutt had urgent back surgery which led to complications. Because of this, he had to cancel all remaining tour dates.
