The Oak Ridge Boys release their new album Mama’s Boys
The iconic country music group, the Oak Ridge Boys, have dropped their 32nd studio album. Mama’s Boys is the band’s fifth album in collaboration with Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb, recorded at Historic RCA Studio A and Blackbird Studios in Nashville, Tennessee.
Mama’s Boys is a “celebration of the profound impact that mothers have, offering a musical homage to the love and strength that shape our lives.” According to their website, the band chose songs that “pay tribute not just to their own mothers, but to mothers everywhere who give us life, hope, and unwavering love.”
The ten-song collection features a recent collaboration with fellow country legend Willie Nelson. “I Thought About You Lord” was originally recorded by Nelson in 1996. Duane Allen of the Oak Ridge Boys recalls how the collaboration came to be:
“I called Buddy Cannon, who had recently been producing Willie, to see if Willie would sing his song with us. He replied that he would be honored to sing with the Oaks. When Willie’s vocals were finished, the masterpiece was completed!”

Mama’s Boys is the first album released by the group since the passing of beloved member Joe Bonsall
On July 9th, the country music community mourned the death of long-time Oak Ridge Boys member Joe Bonsall. The talented musician passed away at the age of 76 from complications of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Mama’s Boys is the first project by the Oak Ridge Boys since the loss of their friend, who has been a part of the group for over 50 years.
Additionally, this is the first album with singer Ben James as the tenor vocalist. James stepped into the role after Bonsall announced his retirement from touring in January 2024.
