On Friday evening (September 1), Jimmy Buffett passed away while surrounded by his friends, family, and beloved dogs. He was 76 years old.
A statement on his official social media pages reads:
“Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs. He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many.”
Buffett is most well-known for his signature song, “Margaritaville.” He released the tune in 1977, and it was a smash hit.
But beyond being a hit song, “Margaritaville” launched an entire empire for Buffett. Its name is now featured on everything from apparel, to pie filling, to beach cruiser bicycles.
Also, there are dozens of “Margaritaville” restaurants and resorts, with locations in Pigeon Forge, Nashville, Orlando, Boston, and Palm Springs, to name a few.

The post highlighted Jimmy’s love of performing, and how he lived a life that mimicked his songs:
“His original idea for Margaritaville was to expand the opportunity for as many people to experience the lifestyle immortalized in his iconic song as possible,” the statement continued. “We celebrate his life, believe his spirit lives on like a never-ending encore, and will see his radiant smile and that twinkle in his eye when we look towards the sun and will continue to share his way of life wherever, whenever we can.”
Margaritaville ended the post by saying, “Fins Up Forever.”
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of Buffett’s family members, friends, and fans during this difficult time. He is so dearly missed…
