The Band started in 1969 by playing six nights a week at a bar called The Bowery in Myrtle Beach, California, for tips. Since then, Alabama has had over 40 number-one hits with notable songs like “Mountain Music,” “Dixieland Delight,” and “Song of the South,” earning 2 Grammy Awards, 9 CMA Awards, and 8 ACM Awards, and induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame (2005).
Alabama, formerly known as Wildcountry, was represented tonight by two surviving members, Teddy Gentry and Randy Owen. Both founding members and cousins, Gentry and Owen, performed without their third founding member, Jeff Cook, who had been with the band throughout their illustrious career. Cook tragically passed away at the age of 73 in 2022 due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.
