Country music legend Loretta Lynn passed away on October 4, 2022. She left behind quite the legacy…one that will continue through her many musical children and grandchildren.

One of Loretta’s granddaughters, Emmy Russell, inherited her love for music. She and Loretta were extremely close, as you can see in the pictures Emmy shared on Instagram after Loretta passed away.

Loretta was honored during a service at the Grand Ole Opry House on October 30, 2022. Her friends and family gathered to watch and participate in various tributes.

Emmy joined Willie Nelson‘s son, Lukas, for a touching performance. They sang “Lay Me Down,” which was the only duet Loretta and Willie ever released together. The song came out in 2016.

CMT later nominated Emmy and Lukas’ duet for the Performance of the Year award at its 2023 CMT Music Awards.

Emmy spoke with Fox News Digital at the CMT Music Awards on Sunday (April 2). She relayed her grandmother’s best piece of advice:

The most advice that she has given me throughout the years was to love God,” Emmy said.

Emmy went on to speak about Loretta’s strong faith. “She was such a lover of God and I think it was more of, ‘Listen to him and follow his voice,'” she said.

It’s obvious how much Loretta loved Emmy, and how much she loved her in return.

Head below to watch an old video of Emmy singing a song called “Memaw’s Guitar” in 2016. Loretta sat by her side for the whole performance, and seemed so proud.
