Opry Audience Finds Themselves Charmed By Lainey Wilson’s Delightful Cover Of “Christmas Cookies”
Grand Ole Opry member Lainey Wilson took to the Opry house during the holiday season to deliver a fun and festive cover of George Strait‘s timeless tune, “Christmas Cookies.”
“Christmas Cookies” was written by Aaron Barker. Strait recorded the song first, and his version was included on the 1999 compilation album A Country Christmas. He later featured the recording on his 2011 album Christmas Time: 15 Holiday Favorites.

“Christmas Cookies” has since been covered by many other country stars, including The Oak Ridge Boys, Drake Milligan, and Wilson.
Wilson has been singing “Christmas Cookies” for years. In 2021, she uploaded a sweet and simple “visualizer” video that featured her version of the song, along with her precious pup, Hippie Mae.
That same year, Wilson delivered a sugary sweet cover of “Christmas Cookies” during the annual CMA Country Christmas TV special.
Wilson revisited “Christmas Cookies” for a performance at the Grand Ole Opry on December 10, 2025. She was performing in one of the “Opry Country Christmas” shows.
The newly crowned CMA Entertainer of the Year dressed to the nines for the occasion. She wore a vivid green outfit (with bell-bottoms, of course), which she paired with a fluffy, darker green jacket and a black cowboy hat.
Wilson lit up the Opry with her energetic and cheerful performance, which you can watch in the fan-filmed video below. Those who watched her performance live got a true holiday treat!

Wilson’s version of “Christmas Cookies” can be found on her brand-new Christmas EP, Peace, Love, and Cowboys (Holiday Edition). The record includes three songs: “Peace, Love and Cowboys,” (the holiday version), “Christmas Cookies,” and “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!”
The latter is a virtual duet with the late Bing Crosby. Vocals from Crosby’s classic recording were blended with Wilson’s to create an updated rendition of the beloved song.
Wilson released an adorable animated music video to accompany their duet.
Wilson played a key role in ushering in the holiday season. She performed during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade shortly before Santa Claus made his highly anticipated debut.
She performed two songs, her latest #1 hit, “Somewhere Over Laredo,” and then the holiday version of “Peace, Love, and Cowboys.” Fans couldn’t stop talking about her performance after it ended, with many saying it was the perfect way to welcome Christmas and the New Year.
