Kacey Musgraves Delivers Touching Loretta Lynn Tribute At Grammy Awards

Country music queen Loretta Lynn was honored during Sunday night’s Grammy Awards In Memoriam segment.
The 65th Grammy Awards took place at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena Sunday night (February 5), and featured tribute performances honoring late artists, including Loretta Lynn.
Six-time Grammy winner Kacey Musgraves had the privilege of playing Lynn’s guitar as she performed “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” The autobiographical song was released in 1970 and tells the story of Loretta’s impoverished Kentucky upbringing.
Musgraves shared her excitement leading up to the performance with a pair of photos. The photos showed Musgraves strumming Loretta Lynn’s guitar. ” See y’all on the Grammys…” Kacey wrote.

Loretta Lynn’s family shared their joy over the tribute with a post remembering Loretta’s own Grammy successes. They also expressed their appreciation that Lynn’s own guitar will grace the Grammy Awards stage once again.
“The @recordingacademy were so special to Loretta. She was nominated or won an award every decade (multiple times) for 6 decades in a row! Amazing,” The post reads. “The show’s tribute to her by @spaceykacey will be especially touching as Kacey will be playing Loretta’s very own Epiphone guitar. We are touched that her guitar will be on that stage tomorrow night. Thank you Grammys, thank you Kacey!”

As Kacey Musgraves sang “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” a photo of Loretta Lynn was displayed behind her followed by names and pictures of other country artists we lost in the last year. Mickey Gilley, Naomi Judd, and Olivia Newton-John were among those remembered.
Loretta Lynn was nominated for 18 Grammy Awards over the course of her decades-long career. She won four of those awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.
The Coal Miner’s Daughter died October 4, 2022, at the age of 90. “Our precious mom, Loretta Lynn, passed away peacefully this morning, October 4th, in her sleep at home in her beloved ranch in Hurricane Mills,” the family said in a statement at the time.
Lynn’s impact on country music was profound, as evidenced by the tributes posted after her death. In November, Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire and Miranda Lambert teamed up during the CMA Awards to deliver a medley of some of Loretta’s greatest hits, including “You Ain’t Woman Enough (To Take My Man)” (1966), “Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’” (1966), “You’re Lookin’ at Country” (1971), and “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”
The tribute marked 50 years since Loretta Lynn was named the first female in CMA Entertainer of the Year.
