Sam Gold will oversee production and development, and Jeanine Tesori will spearhead music production. The pair of Tony Award winners last worked together on the musical Fun Home, which debuted in 2013. Broadway veterans Kristin Caskey, Mike Isaacson, Bee Carrozzini, and ATG Entertainment round out the production team.
Additionally, Loretta Lynn’s manager, producer, and daughter, Patsy Lynn, and longtime adviser, Nancy Russell, will act as consulting producers.
The New Broadway Show Is Inspired By The Film and Autobiography of Loretta Lynn
Loretta Lynn‘s remarkable life story has been told in music, literature, film, and soon-to-be theater. In 1976, the beloved singer wrote her autobiography, Coal Miner’s Daughter, with George Vescey. Just a few years later, it was adapted into a film by screenwriter Tom Rickman and director Michael Apted. Sissy Spacek won an Oscar for her portrayal of Lynn on the big screen.

The play will build upon these prior projects, adding songs and stories from after the 1980 film.
From humble beginnings in rural Kentucky, Lynn forged a path to become one of the most notable stars in country music history. During her illustrious career, she sold over 45 million records, won multiple Grammy and CMA Awards, and received a Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Loretta Lynn’s Family Reacts To The New Project
After news of the adaptation became public, Loretta Lynn’s family shared:
“We are so grateful to see that our mother’s life story and music will continue to touch the hearts of audiences and remain an important statement of the American dream.”Â
They also revealed that Lynn was involved in the early stages of the project before her death in October 2022.
âAs one of the last creative projects our mom was so passionate about, we are thankful that she had the opportunity to experience the initial stages of Sutton’s sincere portrayal of Loretta. Mom absolutely fell in love with her and thought she was just the right person to play her onstage. The family is moved by this incredible team’s commitment to her legacy.”
The premiere date for Coal Miner’s Daughter on Broadway has not yet been announced. Check back for updates.Â
