John Michael Montgomery Shares News He’s Retiring From “The Road Life,” Announces Farewell Tour

Country music star John Michael Montgomery has announced his plans to retire from “the road life” after more than 30 years in the business.

Montgomery released his debut single, “Life’s a Dance,” in 1992. The track made him an instant star, as it reached the fourth spot on the Hot Country Songs chart.

Many other hits followed, including #1 singles “I Love the Way You Love Me,” “I Swear,” “Be My Baby Tonight,” “If You’ve Got Love,” “I Can Love You Like That,” “Sold,” and “The Little Girl.”

Montgomery has been nominated for three Grammy Awards over the course of his career. He’s also won two CMA Awards and four ACM Awards.

Why Is John Michael Montgomery Retiring?

Montgomery has remained active as a touring performer. Now 58 years old (soon to turn 59 on January 20), Montgomery recently shared his plans to embark on a farewell tour.

In a post made on his official Facebook page, Montgomery wrote:

“I hope everyone enjoyed bringing in 2024 and may it be a wonderful one for all my friends out there. For me it will be the start of my farewell tour as I have decided to wind down my touring career over this year and 2025.”

Montgomery continued to reflect on his extraordinary career, saying:

“It’s been a wonderful run for me from the beginning over 30 years ago in 1992 when my first song LIFE’s A DANCE was released to radio I think either as a 45 vinyl or on a cassette tape, CDs had not quite taken over the market yet and the internet was still in its infancy. It amazes me where it is today. I’ve been fortunate and blessed to be able to do what I love for so many years so Please join me on my journey as I say goodbye to the road life.”
