Remembering Keith Whitley’s Life & Legacy

Tuesday (May 9) is the 34th anniversary of Keith Whitley‘s death. He passed away at the age of 34 in 1989.

Keith is known as the voice behind some of country music’s most meaningful songs, including “When You Say Nothing at All,” “I’m No Stranger to the Rain,” and “Don’t Close Your Eyes.” His talents were recognized by the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2022, when he was inducted as a member.

Keith was married to fellow country artist Lorrie Morgan at the time of his death. They share one son, Jesse Keith Whitley, who was just shy of two years old when Keith passed away.

Jesse went on to follow in his parents’ musical footsteps. He releases his own music and also covers his dad’s famous songs such as “I’m Over You.”

Jesse Keith Whitley Shares Touching Tribute To His Dad

Jesse took to his official Facebook page to pay tribute to his father on the 34th anniversary of his death. He shared a photo of Keith, and described how the pain of losing him never gets easier to deal with:

“Usually I always have something clever to say about how much everyone still misses you and how many people you still touch and influence to this day. But, you know that we all know that nothing has changed including how hard this day will forever be. It never gets easier in fact [this] year seems to hit a little bit different.”

Jesse shared how much he wishes Keith could be here to enjoy time with him and his family:

“I wish you could be here to see and play with your grandkids and grand dogs. I wish you and I could ride Harley’s, make music and eat hot chicken. Soon enough,” Jesse said.

Jesse ended his tribute by writing, “Here’s to the greatest to ever do it. I love you dad!” See his full post below.
