Heidi Feek Remembers Joey With Emotional Post On Anniversary Of Passing

On March 4, 2016, the world said goodbye to the beloved Joey Feek after her strong fight with cervical cancer. Her diagnosis had been given just two years prior as the talented mother pushed through the doubt hoping for a happy ending. With positive attitudes and worn-down hearts, the Feek family ultimately received the news they hoped would never come: Joey’s health was quickly declining.

Loving Last Moments

Her final months were spent in the warm embrace of her family. Joey was able to spend Christmas and the New Year with her loved ones, Valentine’s day alongside Rory, and even got to celebrate her baby girl, Indiana’s second birthday. Her musical journey hadn’t ended yet either.

Incredibly, Joey got to see their 2014 song, “If I Needed You” nominated for a Grammy. Furthermore, she produced her final album alongside Rory – a series of hymns that she had always wished to record. The album had a whirlwind of success debuting at the top of the charts following its release and several weeks after.

Joey’s Light

Joey left an incredible impact on the world and in honor of her anniversary, her loved ones are remembering the beautiful light she brought into their lives. While Joey was the mother to just one daughter with Rory, she stepped in as a wonderful bonus mom to Rory’s two older daughters, Heidi and Hopie. Heidi – who is a singer herself – has even found inspiration from Joey.

It has been three years since the Feek family lost Joey and Heidi is reminiscing on the days she was lucky enough to spend alongside her stepmom.

“It has been 3 years since my beautiful stepmother passed away. I remember what her hair smelled like and what her voice sounded like when she’d say my name.”

Heidi continues, focusing on the hardships that life can bring.

“Life is complicated and doesn’t make a whole lot of sense most the time, but I am grateful for the time we had together. Whether there is a point to it all or not, all we really have is our relationships with one another.”

Remembering her in the most beautiful fashion, Heidi is planting some black-eyed susans in Joey’s honor.

“They were her favorite and I think she would’ve liked that.”
