Before she passed away, Lisa Marie Presley threw her full support behind Austin Butler, who played her father Elvis Presley in 2022’s Elvis movie. She said:

“Austin Butler channeled and embodied my father’s heart and soul beautifully. In my humble opinion, his performance is unprecedented and FINALLY done accurately and respectfully. (If he doesn’t get an Oscar for this, I will eat my own foot, haha.)”

Austin went on to win the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama. Lisa Marie and her mother Priscilla were in the audience that night.

31-year-old Austin thanked the Presley women in his speech. He said, “...thank you guys, thank you for opening your hearts, your memories, your home to me. Lisa Marie and Priscilla I love you forever.”

The Golden Globe Awards were held on January 10, just two days before Lisa Marie passed away. Austin addressed the sad news in a statement, saying:

“I am eternally grateful for the time I was lucky enough to be near her bright light and will forever cherish the quiet moments we shared. Her warmth, her love and her authenticity will always be remembered.”
