The Grand Ole Opry Plans Celebration For Ronnie Milsap’s 50th Anniversary As A Member
Ella Langley has signed on to participate in the already star-studded celebration for Opry member Ronnie Milsap‘s 50th anniversary.
Ronnie Milsap became a member of the Grand Ole Opry on February 6, 1976. His official artist page on the Opry website details how he joined:
“Before I joined the Opry in 1976, Jeanne Pruett was always getting me to come out here and guest,” Milsap remembered. “Eventually she said, ‘I think you need to join the Grand Ole Opry.’ And I said, ‘Well, how do you do that?‘”
“All of a sudden, one night I was over here and Mr. Roy Acuff came up to me in the hall and said, ‘Hey, Ronnie, you want to be a member of the Opry?’ I said, ‘Yes, sir.’ He said, ‘Okay, then, you’re going to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry.’“
Now, 50 years later, Milsap is one of the Opry’s longest-serving members, but not the longest. That honor goes to Bill Anderson, who joined the Opry on July 15th, 1961. Additionally, Anderson is the Opry’s oldest living member.
Since a 50-year Opry anniversary is a huge thing to celebrate, the Grand Ole Opry unveiled its plans to host a tribute show in Milsap’s honor. Scheduled for Tuesday, February 24, the show features an all-star lineup of performers, many of whom are Opry members themselves.
Ella Langley Joins Other Country Superstars In Celebrating Ronnie Milsap
The Opry first started sharing its plans for Milsap’s 50th anniversary celebration in late January. At the time, Opry members Blake Shelton, Trace Adkins, Keith Urban, and Mark Wills were the only ones listed on the lineup.
Since then, Opry member Vince Gill also signed on to participate. Now, CMA Award-winning artist Ella Langley has joined the lineup.
Riding high on the success of her #1 hit single, “Choosin’ Texas,” Langley is currently the only non-Opry member set to perform during Milsap’s Opry anniversary show.
