On Thursday, June 6, Dolly Parton announced the news on social media, sharing:

During an interview with USA Today, Dolly revealed that the musical had been a long-standing dream of hers. She also revealed that it was almost ready a couple of years back when the COVID pandemic hit, causing Broadway to shut down.
“I was just about to have it ready when COVID hit and Broadway shut down. Then I thought, ‘Well, maybe I’ll do it as a biopic,’ and wrote up a script for that. But then I was like, ‘Nah, everybody’s doing a biopic! I’m going back to Broadway now that it’s open,” she shared.
Fortunately for the country legend, it seems that she will be able to fulfill her dream soon!
The show, which shares the same name as Dolly’s 1967 debut album, is expected to land on Broadway in 2026. Fans can visit helloimdolly.com for the latest updates and register to be the first to receive news about the show.
This isn’t the first time Dolly has worked on Broadway.
She previously wrote the music for the stage version of her 1980 film “9 to 5.” The project ran for six months in 2009, and Dolly received a Tony nomination for her contribution to it.
Ten years after its original run, “9 to 5” was revived for London’s West End, where it premiered in 2019 and finished just a year later.
Dolly’s new musical, “Hello, I’m Dolly,” will be produced by Dolly, her management company, CTK Enterprises’ Danny Nozell, and ATG Productions’ Adam Speers.
“I first had the pleasure of working with Dolly Parton in 2019 when she trusted us to develop a new version of her musical 9 to 5 for London’s West End,” Speers said in a statement. “I had always heard she wanted to do a musical based on her life, so when she asked if I would be interested in producing it, I was bowled over. As the world knows, Dolly is a magical blend of talent, hard work, intelligence, charm, wit and a gigantically big heart. I’m thrilled we’re going to bring her inspiring story to Broadway.”
Dolly is known for her diverse talents and has been discussing her desire to adapt her life story into a musical for a while.
With a music career of nearly 60 years and a film career of over 40 years, the musical is expected to be a celebration of her remarkable career and life journey.

A few months ago, Dolly shared that she wanted to hold an exclusive “Finding Dolly” contest to cast her upcoming Broadway musical.
Sharing with PEOPLE her hopes for the contest, Dolly revealed that she expects there to be three actors portraying the role of the iconic singer — a “little Dolly,” an “earlier years Dolly,” and “an older Dolly.”
“The whole first act is my early days before I went to Nashville. The second act is about my days in Nashville and beyond…We’re going to be auditioning them and trying to find them through different means…You never know where you’re going to find them.”
It will definitely take a lot of hard work to step into her shoes from “9 to 5!”
