Charlie Daniels Gave Storme Warren Some Simple, But Solid Advice He Still Remembers Today

The Grand Ole Opry Celebrates Charlie Daniels’ Life And Legacy
Visitors who gathered at the Grand Ole Opry House on July 8 got the chance to hear the late Charlie Daniels‘ best advice. One of his dearest friends, Storme Warren, shared Daniels’ words of wisdom with the audience.
As part of their 100th birthday celebration this year (2025), the Opry has hosted a series of shows honoring country music icons. These shows, called Opry 100 Honors: Tributes to the Trailblazers, have recognized artists such as Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, and June Carter Cash.
Upcoming shows will recognize Porter Wagoner, Roy Acuff, Bill Monroe, and Minnie Pearl.

Daniels was recognized during an Opry 100 Honors show held exactly five years and two days after his death on July 6, 2020. He had been an Opry member for 12 years at the time of his passing.
The artists who participated in the Opry’s tribute to Daniels included Chris Young, Gretchen Wilson, Trace Adkins, and Jamey Johnson.
Storme Warren Relays Charlie Daniels’ Best Advice
Country radio broadcaster Storme Warren also appeared at the Opry to celebrate Daniels’ life and legacy.
Warren was devastated when Daniels passed away. Remembering him in an emotional tribute he shared on social media, he wrote:
“All my life, there has always been Charlie Daniels. A childhood hero, an inspiration, a mentor and my friend. The best that’s ever been. Thank you for EVERYTHING. My heart could not be more broken right now. If only I could see the smile on your face right now as you go home. I’ll miss you.”
Warren also led Daniels’ funeral service held in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on July 11, 2020.

During the Opry 100 Honors show, Warren stepped up to the podium to speak about his old friend again.
The Opry shared a video of his speech. The clip captured Warren relaying two pieces of advice he received from Daniels after two separate phone calls. His advice was simple, but solid, and it’s stuck with Warren after all these years.
“I only used his phone number twice, and I was scared to. I mean, literally scared to call his phone. But when I was going through some tough times, I picked up the phone one time, and he answered in half a ringer…And then I went on this long diatribe of some stupid thing that I was going through, that at the time I thought was really important. And he goes, ‘Oh that’s easy, son, just do it better.’ And I went, ‘That’s it?’ And he goes, ‘That’s it.'”
Warren continued:
“…Then a couple years later, same thing, going through something. And I called his phone and he goes, ‘Yeah, son?’ [On the] first ring. I [told him] I just need another piece of advice, and [I] told him the whole thing. And he goes, ‘Oh, that’s easy son, don’t overthink it.'”Â
Warren said those two pieces of advice are now on a sign he displays in his studio.
