Toby Keith’s Family Attends 2024 ACM Awards To Watch Jason Aldean Pay Tribute
Toby Keith’s loved ones are grateful for Jason Aldean’s tribute performance during the 2024 ACM Awards.
Country music icon Toby Keith died on February 5, 2024, following a years-long battle with stomach cancer. In the three months since his death, he’s been honored with tributes from many artists, the CMT Music Awards, and his favorite university, OU.
The ACM also honored Toby with a tribute during its annual awards ceremony on Thursday (May 16). His wife, Tricia Covel, made her first public appearance since his death to attend the event.
She was accompanied by their three children, Shelley, Krystal, and Stelen, and Stelen’s wife, Haley.

The Covel family walked the red carpet together before the ceremony. They were also present in the audience when Jason Aldean took to the stage to deliver his tribute to Toby.
Jason performed a unique, ballad-like rendition of Toby’s breakout hit, “Should’ve Been a Cowboy.” Toby’s loved ones could be seen crying in the audience while watching Jason’s performance
The Covel Family Thanks Jason For His Performance, And Jason Responds
Fans reacted to Jason’s tribute on YouTube, writing:
“Jason Aldean you were amazing tonight. The emotional rendition of Toby’s song was PERFECTION!!! You made his family proud and I know he was looking down from Heaven smiling over you. A legend honored a legend.”

Toby’s family also reacted to Jason’s performance. They published a statement on Toby’s social media pages, which read:
“The Covel family would like to thank Jason Aldean for the wonderfully touching performance at the ACM Awards tonight. It was the perfect tribute to Toby Keith.”
Jason responded to the family’s statement, commenting:
“It was my honor and your stamp of approval means everything. Thank you @tobykeith ‘Covel Family.'”
