You may do a double take when you see this duo singing “Islands In The Stream.” Most likely you were expecting to see superstar Dolly Parton standing across from the legendary Kenny Rogers. Not this time. It’s a different blonde.

Jennifer Steps In For Dolly

Sugarland front-woman Jennifer Nettles joined Rogers in a reprise of the duet Dolly and Kenny made famous way back in 1983. By 2005, “Islands In The Stream,” written by the Bee Gees, topped CMT’s poll of the best country duets of all time.

Don’t worry. Rogers hasn’t replaced Dolly in this timeless duet. She was home recovering from an auto accident and unable to join in the festivities. The event was the 2013 Country Music Association Awards (CMA Awards) during which Rogers was awarded the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Best-Selling Music Artist

Nobody deserved the award that evening more than the highly-decorated Kenny Rogers. Inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in a Medallion Ceremony in late 2013, Rogers was celebrating a five decade-long career.

He sold more than 120 million records worldwide, recorded 24 No. 1 songs and 12 No. 1 albums, released 39 studio albums, and 22 Top 10 Country albums.

Rogers retired in 2015 as one of the best-selling music artists of all time.

Nobody Can “Out Dolly” Dolly

Jennifer Nettles had the honor of performing the memorable duet with Rogers that night, but nobody will ever “out Dolly” Dolly Parton.

You have to admit though, Nettles made the iconic country star proud with her soaring vocals and ever-present smile. Truth be known, Dolly would have highly approved of Nettles’ glittery, head-turning jumpsuit, too.

What did you think of the rollicking duet? Do you have a favorite Kenny Rogers song or duet?
