The late Naomi Judd‘s heavenly birthday was on January 11, and her daughter Wynonna took to social media to express her love.

Naomi Judd was born on January 11, 1946 in Ashland, Kentucky. She overcame extreme poverty, teenage pregnancy, abandonment, and attended nursing school as a single mother of two…all before she even dipped her toes into the country music world.

In 1983, she and her eldest daughter, Wynonna, started the duo The Judds. They went on to have massive success with six studio albums, five Grammy Awards for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, seven ACM Awards for Top Vocal Duo, seven CMA Award for Top Vocal Duo or Top Vocal Group, and to top it all off, they were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2022.

The Hall of Fame induction was bittersweet, as it came just one day after Naomi took her own life.

On April 30, 2022, Wynonna and her sister Ashley Judd shared the heartbreaking news on social media.

They wrote, “Today we sisters experienced a tragedy. We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness. We are shattered. We are navigating profound grief and know that as we loved her, she was loved by her public. We are in unknown territory.”

In the years following her death, both of her daughters have worked to keep Naomi’s legacy alive. Wynonna continued on The Judds’ tour and had female country singers join her at each tour stop.
