Wynonna Judd was actually not born with the name Wynonna Judd. She was born as Christina Claire Ciminella, taking the last name of Michael Ciminella, the man she thought was her father until the early 1990s.

Wynonna’s mother, Naomi Judd, married Michael Ciminella and had a daughter with him, Ashley Ciminella, an actress who professionally goes by Ashley Judd. Michael also raised Wynonna as his own. When Wynonna was 30 years old, and pregnant with her first child in 1994, she found out that Michael was not actually her biological father. A man named Charles Jordan was.

In an interview on Oct. 28, 2020, with Andy Cohen on his Sirius XM radio show, Wynonna said, “I found out about all of this … when I was pregnant with Elijah. I was 30 years old and I found out, you know, part of my life that I thought, you know, this man who was my biological father is not. And it’s Ashley’s father …

She also found out that her biological father, Charles Jordan, had another child three years after she was born, a son named Michael. The singer told Cohen that she actually “met” her long-lost brother the day before, which happened to be his birthday, over the phone.

“I called him on his birthday and I said, ‘Hi’ … and I have the recording, Andy, of me saying, ‘Hi, uh, this is your sister,'” she said.

Wynonna didn’t specify how she found out about her half-brother, his reaction, or if they had plans to speak again, but she did say she will be writing about it in a song.

She never got the chance to meet her biological father before he passed away in 2000, so we hope she will be able to meet her brother in person one day!
