Congratulations are in order for Toby Keith!

Broadcast Music, Inc. (known as BMI) announced on Thursday (October 6) that Keith is this year’s recipient of their renowned Icon Award. BMI shared the news in a statement on social media:

We are honored to present Toby Keith with this year’s BMI Icon Award,” said Clay Bradley, Vice President, Creative, Nashville. Since the release of his single ‘Should’ve Been A Cowboy’ in 1993, Toby has been the gold standard of songwriting in the modern era of Country music. Toby is not only a stellar songwriter, musician, and producer whose songs have amassed millions of performances; he is also a true humanitarian. With 11 USO tours under his belt, he continues to commit to honoring and serving our troops worldwide. No one is more deserving of this honor.”

The Icon Award will be presented to Keith during BMI’s Country Awards. The awards ceremony will be held on November 8 at BMI’s office in Nashville. Bradley and BMI’s President and CEO Mike O’Neil will serve as the hosts.

Other awards that will be presented during the ceremony include Country Songwriter, Song, and Publisher of the Year. The ceremony will also “salute the writers and publishers of the past year’s 50 most-performed songs from BMI’s Country catalog.”
