Tim McGraw Sings “On The Other Hand” Alongside Randy Travis

Randy Travis and Tim McGraw united for a special performance that neither of them will ever forget.

The two country stars met up backstage at a recent show. Thankfully, someone thought to start filming as McGraw began singing Travis’ “On the Other Hand.” The song became a #1 hit for Travis in 1986.

Travis, who suffered a stroke in 2013, has trouble speaking and singing. He’s been able to release some new songs in the past year by using artificial intelligence (otherwise known as AI) to reclaim his voice. The new songs were created by layering Travis’ old vocals over another singer’s voice.

Travis has also sang the “Amen” at the end of “Forever and Ever, Amen” during some live performances, and sang “Amazing Grace” during his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016.

When McGraw tipped his hat to Travis by singing “On the Other Hand,” Travis joined in and sang along. He couldn’t stop smiling as McGraw delivered his smooth and respectful cover.

The duo was joined by McGraw’s young nephew, Timothy Wayne, who’s chasing his own country music dreams.

Travis’ team shared the video of their backstage performance, captioning it, “A moment we’ll never forget…@TheTimMcGraw is one of the best out there! And how about his nephew @TimothyWayne?! Y’all go check him out.”

Tim McGraw Has Scaled Back On Live Performances Due To Health Issues And Surgeries

After taking it slow for the past year, McGraw is getting back in the swing of things. He’s struggled with his health and has had to undergo multiple surgeries.

I can tell you that after double knee replacements and three back surgeries and now a torn rotator cuff and a ruptured disc, all the things that are going on, there were times this year that I thought this might be it. This might be time to hang it up,” McGraw said in a May 2025 episode of Tracy Lawrence’s TL’s Road House podcast.

McGraw performed at the Music City Rodeo on May 31, his first live performance in nearly a year. During that show, his team filmed a music video for his new song, “King Rodeo.”

The track has McGraw taking on the role of a weathered rodeo cowboy who recognizes he’s growing older, but isn’t ready to quit. The lyrics seem to mirror what McGraw has been going through in the past year, as he sings:

So the spotlight’s faded, you moved a little past your prime. Don’t let ’em make you jaded, ’cause you can’t turn back time. Tomorrow’s like a woman, you can’t understand. Lady Luck’s been good to you so take her by the hand.
