McGraw played James Dutton in 1883, the patriarch of the modern-day Dutton family. His real-life wife, Faith Hill, played James’ wife Margaret.

He shared what it was like for them to work with Elliott on set, saying in a video on Instagram:

“We had so much fun making this show. My favorite thing was getting to work with my wife, but getting to work alongside Sam Elliott, who is just a legend. Everything that you’d ever think that he was, he lived up to. He was just one of the nicest, sweetest guys in the world.”
