The Avett Brothers Deliver an Energetic Toby Keith Cover at “Concert For Carolina”

On Saturday, October 26, a Large Lineup of Performers Came Together for the Concert For Carolina Charity Event.
The event was organized by Luke Combs and Eric Church to raise money for victims affected by Hurricane Helene. The show featured performances from them as well as other stars like Scotty McCreery, Sheryl Crow, James Taylor, and more.
The Concert For Carolina turned into a five-hour event, drawing nearly 82,000 attendees to the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. By the end of the night, the benefit concert had raised around $24.5 million. All funds raised will support several organizations, including Samaritan’s Purse, Manna Food Bank, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest, and Eblen Charities.
The Avett Brothers Join Concert For Carolina to Help Raise Money for Their Home State
Folk rock band The Avett Brothers were also part of the charity concert on Saturday night. Not only did the group make their home state proud by participating in the event to help raise money, but during their performance, they also paid tribute to the late Toby Keith. Luke Combs introduced The Avett Brothers on stage, and the group performed a special rendition of Keith’s “As Good as I Once Was.”
Toby Keith and Scotty Emeric wrote “As Good as I Once Was,” which originally came out in May 2005 as the second single from Keith’s album Honkytonk University. The song reached the top of Billboard’s Hot Country Charts that same year. After Keith passed away on February 5, 2024, it re-entered the Hot Country Songs chart at number 19. Many consider it one of Keith’s best-known songs.
The Avett Brothers’ lively version of the song was a truly special moment in the show, giving hope to those affected by the tropical storm. The performance reminded everyone that, even though recovery may take time, better days are coming.
