Elvis Presley Died In 1977, But Some People Believe He’s Still Alive

Priscilla Presley does not entertain any theories that Elvis is still alive.

Elvis and Priscilla wed in 1967 and divorced in 1973. They shared one child, a daughter named Lisa Marie. Sadly, Lisa Marie died in 2023 at the age of 54 due to a small bowel obstruction caused by complications from bariatric surgery.

Priscilla and Elvis had been divorced for four years when he died on August 16, 1977, at the age of 42. After he died, his father, Vernon, became an executor of his estate, which was kept in a trust for Lisa Marie.

Vernon named Priscilla as his successor. After he died in 1979, Priscilla took over as the executor of Elvis’ estate. Under her, Elvis’ Graceland mansion and grounds were opened as a public museum in 1982.

Graceland is now one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States. It welcomes over 500,000 visitors each year, making it the second-most famous home in the country, only behind the White House.

Priscilla often speaks about Elvis in interviews and books, and in relation to high-profile projects based on his life and career. She was a vocal supporter of the Elvis and Priscilla movies released in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Priscilla Presley Dismisses Theories That Elvis Is Alive And In Hiding

Anyone within the Elvis fan community has surely encountered the theories that “The King” is still alive and well. These theories are so prevalent that there’s an entire Wikipedia page dedicated to them.

Even now, 48 years after his death (when he would have been 90 years old), people still claim they spotted Elvis out and about in the world.

Priscilla recently sat down with PEOPLE to speak about her new memoir, Softly, as I Leave You: Life After Elvis. During her interview, Priscilla slammed the longstanding rumors and theories that Elvis is still alive and has been hiding from the public eye.

She said, “There’s been so much that’s untruthful out there — things like Elvis is still alive and hidden somewhere.” She added, “I wish he was still alive.”

Those who wish to pay their respects to Elvis can visit his grave at his Graceland estate in Memphis. He, his father Vernon, mother Gladys, grandmother Minnie Mae, daughter Lisa Marie, and grandson Benjamin Keough have all been laid to rest on the grounds.

Priscilla said life “hasn’t been easy at all” after losing so many loved ones and family members. But as she told PEOPLE, “…you have to find strength.”
