In 2011, Georgette Jones, the only child of Tammy Wynette and George Jones, wrote a book about her childhood titled The Three of Us: Growing Up With Tammy and George.

The memoir offers a candid look at Wynette “as a mother and how her substance abuse and dependency on men forever shaped her daughter’s relationships and approach to drugs and alcohol. She also reflects on applying the lessons she learned from both of her parents to raising her own twin sons and offers a heartwarming account of how she rediscovered the connection with her father after years of pain, missed opportunities, and lost time.

A couple weeks ago, Georgette announced on social media that after lots of meetings, she can finally reveal to the world that a series will be made about her legendary parents.

“I finally signed a contract last week and had my 1st meeting with producers and writers today! We had originally planned to make a theater movie about my parents, but I’m very happy to say we’re doing something even better! Instead of having a 2 hour movie in the days of COVID where few are able to get to a theater, we are officially contracted to do an 8-10 episodes series (that means 8-10 hours of story) about Mom and Dad,” she wrote on social media. “I’m cleared to announce, but will wait to give further details until we have it properly announced to the world.”

Titled George & Tammy, the limited series will be able to be watched on Spectrum Originals, ViacomCBS and Paramount Network’s upcoming streaming service.

George & Tammy was created by Abe Sylvia, who is a co-executive producer on Netflix’s Dead to Me. and according to Deadline, will executive produce “alongside Andrew Lazar (American Sniper), and Josh Brolin.”

About bringing George & Tammy to life, Sylvia said, “I am humbled to bring this incredible story to life with the breadth it deserves and that the Charter platforms allow.”

Following his statement, he revealed who will step into The First Lady of Country’s shoes: actress Jessica Chastain.

Tammy Wynette is an American icon, and I can think of no one better to illuminate the woman behind the legend than Jessica Chastain,” he said. “This has indeed been a passion project for Andrew, Josh and me – and we are so grateful to our partners Katherine Pope, Keith Cox and David Glasser for tirelessly championing our labor of love.”

Chastain will also produce the limited series. In 2016, Chastain was actually tied to a film about George Jones, titled No Show Jones with Josh Brolin playing “The Possum.” Jones’ widow Nancy was involved with that film, but has no connection to this limited series.

With Brolin signed on as a producer of George & Tammy, it seems as though it will only be a matter of time before he is confirmed to playing George Jones in this limited series.
