According To Reports, Kevin Costner Would Like To Return To Yellowstone After Behind-The-Scenes Drama

There’s been a lot of behind-the-scenes drama in the Yellowstone world ever since the show aired its midseason finale last January. It started with a rumored feud between the series’ lead, Kevin Costner, over his schedule.

Reports at the time claimed that Costner wanted to cut down his filming schedule so he could focus on his Horizon movies series.

Show creator Taylor Sheridan addressed the situation, saying:

I’ve never had an issue with Kevin that he and I couldn’t work out on the phone. But once lawyers get involved, then people don’t get to talk to each other and start saying things that aren’t true and attempt to shift blame.

Why Did Kevin Costner Really Leave Yellowstone?

After a few months, fans finally got some answers as to why Costner left Yellowstone. Those answers came during the court proceedings for his divorce from Christine Baumgartner.

He testified that scheduling conflicts were at play. He also claimed there was a dispute over his salary.

Costner told the court he was supposed to receive $12 million for the second half of Season 5. He also planned to return for a sixth season, but those plans fell through.

I couldn’t help them any more,” Costner said. “We tried to negotiate, they offered me less money than previous seasons, there were issues with the creative…

The court asked Costner if he received a payout for the second half of Season 5. He responded, “I will probably go to court over it.

Costner testified he made one last effort to return to the series. He told his representatives, “have them pay me whatever number.” But in the end, he claims it was Yellowstone who “walked away” from him.

What’s Happening With The Show Now?

Return to production was delayed even further due to the writers and actors strikes in Hollywood in 2023. Once those ended, Yellowstone finally shared a new timeline for its return.

The second half of Season 5 is now slated to premiere this November. Instead of continuing with a sixth season, Yellowstone will end with Season 5.

A new spin-off series has been in the works, but not much is known about that project.

According to a new report from Puck News, Costner has expressed the desire to return for the show’s final episodes. But, the show doesn’t want him back.

Puck News claims that one of Costner’s reps is still trying to negotiate his return to the show. But, allegedly, Taylor Sheridan is pleased with the scripts he’s written for the show’s final episodes…which don’t include Costner.

Filming for the new episodes starts in just a few months. So there isn’t much time for Costner and the show to work out any negotiations.

Stay tuned for any future updates about Yellowstone‘s fate and Kevin Costner’s future on the series.
