John Michael Montgomery Announced His Retirement In Early 2024
In January 2024, John Michael Montgomery shared the news that he would be retiring from touring. The announcement came after more than 30 years in the country music business.
Back in 1992, Montgomery released his debut single “Life’s a Dance,” which ultimately launched him to stardom after it reached the number four spot of the Hot Country Songs chart.
He would go on to earn a total of seven number one singles, along with mutiple honors throughout his career, including three Grammy nominations, four ACM Awards, and more.

With so much history and still a loyal fanbase after all these years, Montgomery made sure his retirement came with one final gift for his fans.
He announced a farewell tour so they could come see him live one last time before he stepped away from the stage for good.
He began his final round of shows last year and has continued them in 2025. The tour, called The Road Home Tour, will officially wrap up this year. And recently, Montgomery shared what fans can expect from his final performance.
What To Know About John Michael Montgomery’s Final Concert
Montgomery shared the long-awaited details for his final show in a post to social media on Tuesday, July 29.
The “I Swear” singer revealed that his last performance will take place in his home state of Kentucky on December 12 at Rupp Arena in Lexington.
But that’s not all. Montgomery is turning the night into a family affair with several special guests.
Joining him on stage for performances will be his brother Eddie Montgomery, his son Walker Montgomery, and his son-in-law Travis Denning.
“I stepped on a tour bus for the first time in 1992 and haven’t looked back since, but now it’s time to bring it all back home for my last concert and I can’t think of a better place than Rupp Arena,” Montgomery said in a statement. “I wanted to celebrate this occasion with my family, so I invited some of them to perform with me. We are going to have a lot of fun and end this ride in a big way.
For anyone wanting to see John Michael Montgomery’s final live concert, pre-sale tickets will be available starting Wednesday, July 30. General ticket sales begin Friday, August 1.
