How Dolly Parton Reacted To Kelly Clarkson’s “I Will Always Love You” Cover At The ACM Awards

There were over 20 performances during the ACM Awards on Monday night (March 7). One of the final performances was delivered by Kelly Clarkson, who sang a cover of Dolly Parton‘s timeless song “I Will Always Love You.”
Clarkson’s performance earned a wealth of praise from viewers. “That was one of the most beautiful renditions of ‘I Will Always Love You’ I have ever heard,” wrote Twitter user Matthew Schmidt.
Schmidt’s compliment was just one of many that appeared on social media after Clarkson’s performance.

But what did Parton think of Clarkson’s performance? We didn’t have to wait long to get her reaction, because Parton was at the ACM Awards!
Parton was one of the ceremony’s co-hosts, so she was listening to Clarkson’s performance from backstage. She joined Clarkson once she finished singing and let her know how she felt about her performance.
Clarkson’s cover struck an emotional chord with Parton:
“I was backstage trying not to cry my false eyelashes off, slinging snot in every direction and tears,” Parton said. “But anyway, that was an amazing job!”
Parton also referenced the late Whitney Houston, who famously covered “I Will Always Love You.”
“I know that Whitney is smiling down on us tonight, so thank you very much. She would be proud of that,” Parton said.
Parton made it clear with her comments that she too, was proud of Clarkson’s performance. Check it out in the video below.
