The Billboard Music Awards announced their 2023 nominees and among the finalists is the King of Country Music, George Strait.

The 2023 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) will take place on Sunday, November 19th, and will celebrate the biggest names in music today. Winners for each award category are determined by performance on the Billboard charts, with key factors including fan interactions with music, including audio and video streaming, album and song sales, radio airplay, and touring.

The full list of 2023 nominees was announced Thursday (Oct. 26), and the representation of country artists is strong across the board. Among those is the King of Country Music, George Strait, who was named as a finalist for Top Country Touring Artist. Nominated alongside him are country powerhouses Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs.

George Strait won the BBMA for Top Country Tour in 2020

At the 2020 Billboard Music Awards, George Strait was named the winner of the Top Country Tour. This was a surprising win considering Strait only had 9 shows during the award year. However, Billboard reported that he averaged more than $5 million per show, which was far higher than his competitors.

George Strait’s history of success with Billboard awards includes the Legend of Live Award from the 2013 Billboard Touring Awards and the Top Country Artist award from the 1986 and 1987 Billboard Year-End Awards. He was also named Billboard’s Top Country Artist of the Past 25 Years in 2010.
