But Parton has stepped back in one way. In 2022, she announced her retirement from full-scale touring.
“I do not think I will ever tour again,” she told Pollstar. “But, I do know Iâll do special shows here and there, now and then. Maybe do a long weekend of shows, or just a few shows at a festival. But, I have no intention of going on a full-blown tour anymore.â

Will Dolly Parton Ever Retire Completely?
After this announcement, fans wondered if Parton will ever retire completely. She answered that question during a recent appearance on on Ken Bruceâs Greatest Hits Radio:
“I would never retire!” she said. “I would hopefully drop dead in the middle of a song on stage someday â and hopefully one Iâve written.”
She continued:
“Thatâs how I hope to go. I donât have much of a choice in that but, in the meantime, Iâm going to make hay while the sun shines.”
Parton further explained why she’s no longer going on extensive tours at this stage in her career. She said:
“But as far as touring I think those days are pretty much behind me⦠you have to stay gone so long on a tour to make it productive and prosperous and thatâs a lot of time at my age â I ainât got no years to waste!“
Many people are probably relieved to hear that Parton has no plans to retire. We’re looking forward to all of the projects she is in store for the future!
