Dolly Parton celebrates her 78th birthday

On January 19, 1946, Dolly Rebecca Parton was born in a one-room cabin on the banks of the Little Pigeon River in Pittman Center, Tennessee. Dolly was raised in a humble farming family with twelve children. She began singing in church as a young child, but soon her talent was recognized and she began singing for local radio and television programs in East Tennessee. She recorded her first single “Puppy Love” at the age of 13.

Now 78-years-old, Dolly Parton is country music royalty. With more than 100 million records sold, 26 no. 1 singles, 11 Grammy Awards, 10 CMA Awards, and endless additional honors and accolades, Dolly Parton has made (and continues to make) an immeasurable impact on country music.
