The pair has worked together on TV on several other occasions. Who can forget the time Shelton played McEntire’s younger brother on her sitcom Malibu Country?
Additionally, McEntire served as Shelton’s first mentor on The Voice. The duo brought things full circle, because McEntire was the Mega Mentor on Shelton’s last season as a coach.
Blake & Reba Reflect On Their Friendship
The Voice shared a video showcasing McEntire’s bond with all four of the Voice coaches: Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, Niall Horan, and Chance the Rapper. The clip shows Shelton and McEntire talking about their lengthy friendship. They shared some of their favorite memories together:
“…we’ve worked together a lot over the years,” Shelton said. “…’Malibu Country,’ at least two ACM Awards, maybe three.”
“That was so much fun,” McEntire said.
Shelton agreed, saying, “That was fun.”
They went on to discuss their history together on The Voice:
“And not to mention, you were my first mentor ever, here on this show,” Shelton said. “And you’re gonna be my last mentor.”
“What does that say about our relationship?” McEntire asked.
“You brought me into this, and now you’re taking me out,” Shelton answered, getting a laugh out of McEntire.
It seems fitting McEntire is back on The Voice to help Shelton during his final season. If you want to see how McEntire interacted with the other Voice coaches, be sure to check out the video below.
