Taking a little detour on her 2018 Girl Going Nowhere Tour, Ashley McBryde stopped by the sold-out FM 94.9 WQMX radio concert in Akron, Ohio to perform a few songs. Also slated to perform was newcomer Abby Anderson, who is currently on the road promoting her EP I’m Good.

Besides singing their respective sets, the two ladies joined forces for an impromptu cover of “Stand By Me.” As described by a fan in the audience, “This song that they played together was unrehearsed and picked out by the two of them on the spot.”

While the beloved song is mostly known for being a hit for soul singer Ben E. King, country singer Mickey Gilley took it to new heights, thanks to his version being featured in the film Urban Cowboy, which starred John Travolta and Debra Winger.

McBryde took lead on the first verse and chorus, strumming her guitar, with Anderson providing subtle harmonies and playing the keyboard next to her. When it came Anderson’s turn to take over vocals for the next verse, McBryde loved what she was hearing, and told her, “Keep going,” encouraging her to sing lead on the chorus as well.

For the last chorus, McBryde provided her signature gritty and powerful vocals, which had us begging me for more.

One person who thoroughly enjoyed their collaboration was Anderson herself! She took to Instagram after the performance to rave about McBryde.

“This woman inspired me like I never knew I could be inspired and it was an honor to share the stage with her. Her artistry, humility and pure love for country music moved me to tears. I feel real lucky to be in a business where I’m surrounded by people and artists who make me want to be better at my craft. So cheers to you Ashley McBryde. Thank you for your joy, your positivity and making me want to go home and practice haha you are a gift.”
