Voice Singer Pays Tribute To Olivia Newton-John With Spanish Version Of Her Signature Song

“Hopelessly Devoted to You” was written specifically for Olivia Newton-John to sing as Sandy in the 1978 film Grease. The song perfectly showcased her talent as a vocalist, and earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song.

Even up to her death in 2022, many considered “Hopelessly Devoted to You” to be Newton-John’s signature song.

Because of its history, Juliette Ojeda faced a tall order when she opted to cover “Hopelessly Devoted to You” on Season 24 of The Voice. But she ended up delivering a unique rendition of the song that resulted in a three-chair turn.

Juliette Ojeda Impresses Voice Coaches With Her Talent & Spirit

Ojeda, who is Cuban American, surprised the coaches by performing “Hopelessly Devoted to You” in Spanish. The coaches listened intently as she softly flowed through the first few lines of the song.

Then Ojeda kicked things up a notch, and launched into a spunky, uptempo rendition of the song. She switched between singing in English and Spanish, which further impressed the coaches.

While they waited for a little while, Reba McEntire, Niall Horan, and Gwen Stefani eventually all turned their chairs for Ojeda around the same time.

Although John Legend did not turn his chair, he was also captivated by Ojeda’s energetic performance. “That was such a performance, it was like a roller coaster,” he said.

Horan said that Ojeda’s performance “…was crazy in a really good way.” While McEntire said she was “very impressed” with what Ojeda did with “Hopelessly Devoted to You.”
