New Waylon Jennings Album, “Songbird,” Released 23 Years After His Death

Shooter Jennings Discovers Previously Unheard Music From Waylon Jennings
Waylon Jennings Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and guitarist, passed away on February 13th, 2002, at the age of 64. Considered to be one of the pioneers of the Outlaw country music movement, his music left an undeniable mark on the industry.
On what would have been Waylon’s 88th birthday, his son Shooter Jennings, born Waylon Albright, made an announcement that thrilled fans. He revealed that while digging through his dad’s old tapes, he discovered “a plethora of music by Waylon and the band at the peak of their abilities.”

Shooter writes:
“I’ve been waiting so long to share this with you. It hasn’t been an easy road to get here, but it’s been one that has given me a new purpose in life.”
What he discovered was “an audio record of an incredibly profound artist and his legendary band through their peak period of creative expansion.“ Shooter wrote a heartfelt letter to fans describing the experience in detail. Read it below!
Shooter Jennings Announces The Release Of Three New Waylon Records
Shooter Jennings enlisted the help of some notable musicians to put the finishing touches on the newly discovered recordings. Four of the original members of The Waylors, as well as musicians Ashley Monroe and Elizabeth Cook, lent their talents to the project.
In total, these recordings will be compiled into three albums. The first of these, titled Songbird, was released today, October 3rd.
The title track is a rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s “Songbird” written by Christine McVie, featuring Waylon Jennings, Richie Albright, Ralph Mooney, Jerry Bridges, Barny Robertson, Gordon Payne, Ashley Monroe, and Elizabeth Cook. Listen to it below!
