In 1974, rock band Van Halen was formed with Eddie Van Halen playing lead guitar, David Lee Roth on lead vocals, Alex Van Halen on drums, and Michael Anthony on bass. They went on to become one of the biggest rock bands of all time.
The band went on to super stardom, selling 56 million records in the United States and 80 million worldwide, while also going through public turmoil between multiple band members.
In October 2020, Eddie Van Halen passed away after an âarduous battle with cancer,â according to his son Wolfgang.
Wolfgang wrote on social media, âI canât believe Iâm having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning. He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment Iâve shared with him on and off the stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I donât think Iâll ever fully recover from this loss. I love you so much, Pop.â
On January 26, 2021, Eddie would have turned 66 years old and Wolfgang wrote a tribute on social media saying how much he is missed and included a home video.
“Happy 66th birthday, Pop,” he wrote on Twitter. “I wish I could give you the biggest hug and celebrate with you. I love and miss you so much it hurts. I don’t even know how to put it into words. I’ve been doing my best to hold it together, but goddammit it’s really tough being here without you.”

Wolfgang’s mom, and Eddie’s ex-wife actress Valerie Bertinelli, shared a screenshot of her texts with her ex-husband from his 65th birthday in 2020.
Clearly, Eddie and Valerie had lots of love for each other, even years after their divorce. Eddie is surely missed by his family, friends, and fans. We will keep them in our prayers!
