Dolly Parton Mourns Death Of “Special Friend” Olivia Newton-John | Classic Country Music | Legendary Stories and Songs Videos

Olivia Newton-John passed away on Monday (August 8) following her third battle with cancer. The beloved singer and actress was 73.

Newton-John was known around the world for playing Sandy in Grease and for recording hit pop songs such as “Physical.” But she didn’t only sing pop music. Newton-John enjoyed a successful country music career too, with a total of seven Top 10 Billboard Hot Country chart singles. She also won the CMA’s Female Vocalist of the Year award in 1974.

Due to her involvement in the country music community, many country artists formed close bonds with Newton-John. Dolly Parton considered Newton-John to be a dear friend, so she was heartbroken when she heard about her death.

Parton released a short statement on social media addressing Newton-John’s passing. She said:

So sad to have lost my special friend Olivia Newton-John. So happy that our lives crossed paths. I know her voice is singing beautifully with the angels. With Love, Dolly.”

Beyond being friends, Newton-John recorded Parton’s “Jolene” and featured it on her 1976 album Come On Over. You can watch Newton-John deliver a live performance of the song in the video below.
