The 81-year-old country music legend and beloved performer was involved in a serious car accident on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2018 and is speaking out in a video on Facebook for the first time since the terrifying ordeal.

Mickey Gilley, known for his seemingly endless string of hits throughout the 1970s and 1980s, has become one of the most-treasured country legends who continues to perform today. He was headed toward Branson, Missouri to his theater when he and son, Michael Gilley were involved in a car accident.

Heading through the small town of Lufkin, Texas, another vehicle failed to stop at a marked intersection and crossed in front of the Gilley’s vehicle, Michael tried to avoid a collision with the other vehicle by swerving but ended up clipping it anyway. Their vehicle rolled over three times before coming to a stop on the roof, just feet from the highway.

Taking to Facebook, Mickey Gilley sounds vibrant and full of life even though he shows off some bruised and broken parts during the clip.

“I had an accident yesterday. We rolled a car about three times over,” Gilley explained to his followers. “I have a fractured left ankle and a fractured right shoulder. I am having a hard time walking because I have a big boot on my left leg. But other than that I’m doing pretty good. To be 81 years old and put myself through what I’ve been through, it’s kinda tough sometimes on the old man, but I don’t intend to retire. I will be out there on the road and I’ll see you real soon.”

In addition to the video statement, Gilley also shared a photo of the crash aftermath with fans, stating some of the information he’d already shared in the video.
