On Thursday (August 15), current NASCAR analyst and former NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., his wife, Amy, and their one-year-old daughter, Isla, were involved in a plane crash at the Elizabethton Municipal Airport in Tennessee at 3:40 PM CT. Federal Aviation Administration officials spoke to ESPN about the crash, and they said the Earnhardts’ private plane rolled off the end of the runway after landing and then caught fire.
In addition to carrying Dale Jr., his wife, and daughter, two pilots were on board, and so was the Earnhardt family dog.
Thankfully, no one was seriously injured in the crash, with ESPN reporting the only injuries were “cuts and abrasions.” Dale Jr. was taken to the hospital, but was released later that same day.
“We’re incredibly grateful that Dale, his wife Amy, daughter Isla, and the two pilots are safe following today’s accident,” NBC Sports said in a statement that was released through ESPN. “After being discharged from the hospital, we communicated with Dale and his team, and we’re all in agreement that he should take this weekend off to be with his family.”
After news of the crash went public, many people rushed to send the Earnhardt family their prayers and well-wishes. One such person was country singer Brad Paisley.
Brad has often expressed his admiration for Dale Jr. Back in 2017, he performed a concert in Dale Jr.’s honor in the leadup to his final ride as a NASCAR driver.
So when Brad heard that Dale Jr. and his family had been involved in a plane crash, he wanted to make sure they knew he was thinking of them.
While Dale Jr. drove the number 8 car for a large part of his career, he also drove the number 88. Brad shared a picture of himself wearing a hat with the number 88 on it to show solidarity with Dale Jr. following the plane crash.
“To the @dalejr family, our prayers, and glad you’re out safe, get well!” Brad wrote in his caption to the photo.
We too, join Brad in praying for Dale Jr., Amy, Isla, their dog, and the two pilots that were involved in the crash. We’re so glad they’re safe.
