Vince Gill And Patty Loveless Sing “When I Call Your Name” At 1990 CMA Awards

Two of our favorite classic country music artists teamed up to deliver a breathtaking performance of “When I Call Your Name” at the 24th annual CMA Awards in 1990.

Vince Gill and Patty Loveless joined forces to perform “When I Call Your Name” at the 1990 CMA Awards.

“When I Call Your Name,” the title song for Vince Gill’s 1989 album, was written by Vince and Tim DuBois (the same dynamite duo who wrote “Oklahoma Swing”).

“When I Call Your Name” became the star’s first well-known hit reaching #2 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, and went on to win Single Of The Year at the CMA Awards in 1990.

Cody Johnson recently performed this beautiful song at the CMT Awards, but before his performance this is what he said to Vince Gill:

“You said you dedicated your life to country music. Well, I personally want to thank you for that because it’s given me the courage to dedicate my life to country music. I think that we can all agree with that.”

Vince Gill is perhaps one of the more iconic male country music artists in history, leaving a huge impression on many of today’s artists. Cody added:

“When I think about vocalist, male vocalists in particular, that I was influenced by as a young kid, I think about people like Glen Campbell, Merl Haggard, George Jones, and Vince Gill.”

After an introduction by Randy Travis at the 1990 CMA Awards, Vince Gill and Patty Loveless made their way to the stage to perform a perfect duet of this emotional song that they had previously recorded together, perfectly harmonizing and earning an applause from the crowd mid-song.

Vince Gill has been accompanied by many female vocalists over the years, but his blend with Loveless really can’t be beat. Their voices complement each other perfectly making them one of the most iconic duos in country music history.
