Shania Twain Makes Rare Appearance With Husband At CMT Music Awards

Shania Twain once told PEOPLE love “was the last thing on [her] mind” after splitting from her husband Robert “Mutt” Lange in 2008. He allegedly had an affair with Twain’s close friend, Marie-Anne Thiébaud. Marie-Anne’s then-husband, Frédéric Thiébaud, is reported to have told Shania about the affair.

Frédéric and Marie-Anne divorced as well. He and Shania bonded over their shared heartache, and eventually fell in love. “It’s just amazing how life works,” Shania told PEOPLE.

Shania and Frédéric were married on January 1, 2011.

Shania and Frédéric keep to themselves for the most part. It’s a rare thing to see them in public together. Fans rejoice whenever the two of them attend an event or share a new photo.

Most recently, Frédéric and Shania appeared together at the 2023 CMT Music Awards. Shania was being honored as the recipient of CMT’s Equal Play Award. She was the third person to ever receive the award.

It seems Shania and Frédéric did not walk the red carpet together before the ceremony. But Frédéric was spotted smiling by Shania’s side in the crowd at the opening of the show.

Frédéric was surely beaming with pride as Shania accepted the Equal Play Award later in the evening.

“You may not know this, but the CMT Rising Star Award was my very first award ever, 30 years ago,” she said during her passionate speech. “So CMT holds a very special place in my heart. I promise I will continue to champion country artists that are not currently played at the level they deserve. I believe in an all inclusive country music family.”
