The Ingalls family captivated viewers’ hearts on the hit American drama series Little House on the Prairie, but how many people from the original cast are still alive?

While most of the show’s core cast are still around today, a few fan-favorite characters have passed away since the show’s conclusion in 1982. Perhaps most famously, fans had to say goodbye to one of the show’s biggest stars, Michael Landon, who portrayed Charles Ingalls. Landon was known for starring on television shows such as Bonanza and Highway to Heaven. He was also hugely involved in creating the Little House on the Prairie series; Landon served as an executive producer, director, and writer for the show.

In April 1991, Landon publicly revealed that he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The iconic actor passed soon after receiving his diagnosis on July 1, 1991, in Malibu, California. He was 54.

Victor French, who portrayed Isaiah Edwards, also passed away after a lengthy career in Hollywood. French played a troubled character who remained a good and loyal friend to the Ingalls family.

French was known for his roles in Little House on the Prairie, Highway to Heaven, and more. The actor died of lung cancer on June 15, 1989, at Sherman Oaks Community Hospital in Los Angeles, California. French was 54.
